Egyptian Cartonnage from the Egypt Centre

01
Before treatment
The cartonnage mask is mostly likely to be dated to the Ptolemaic period, the mask and the chest pieces were separated with missing parts.
After the analysis and cleaning of the object, it was passed on to another student.
02
Cleaning
The mask and the chest pieces were surface cleaned with vulcanized rubber sponges, groom stick and brushes

03
XRF (X-ray fluorescence) analysis
Through XRF analysis, I was able to identify the material used for the colour pigments:
- Blue pigment is likely Egyptian blue
- Black pigment is likely carbon
- Red pigment is Hematite
- Green pigment is Egyptian green
- White is calcite or gypsum
- Goad leaf on the face of the mask
