Ceramic coal mining truck from Dean Heritage Centre

01
Before treatment
A ceramic coal mining truck from Cinderford was exhibited in the Dean Heritage Centre. The object has been broken into three pieces and the surface of the object has deposit layers of soot from the fire accident that occurred in 2009 in the Dean Heritage Centre.
02
Cleaning
It was unsuccessful to remove soot deposit using dry cleaning method (vulcanized rubber sponges and Groom stick cleaner). Therefore, chemical cleaning was the chosen method to clean the soot deposit. Soot material was removed with non-ionic detergent (Dehypon LS45) and deionised water via cotton swabs.

03
Adhesive
After testing the different Paraloid B 72 with acetone in different concentrations, a solution of 30% Paraloid B72 in acetone was used to adhere the broken pieces using a brush.
04
After treatment
The object is now clean and the broken pieces have been adhered back together.
